Tete Tilder: The Matriarch of Zimbabwean Airwaves
A broadcaster, humanitarian, and fearless champion whose voice became a refuge for the unheard.
Early Life & the Spark of Purpose
Born on 1 May 1966 at Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo, Tilder Moyo-Karizamimba was shaped by life in Pelandaba township—a community that instilled resilience, empathy, and social awareness.
Her education at Induba Primary and Founders High School revealed early leadership traits. Though journalism school beckoned, destiny placed her at ZBC in 1986 at just 20 years old.
A Pioneering Career in Broadcasting
Tilder trained across every ZBC department, mastering archives, technical production, and field work. She rose to fame on Ezomgido / Mutinhimira weMumhanzi, captivating audiences nationwide.
But she soon realized Zimbabwe needed more than entertainment. She boldly transitioned into hard-hitting talk shows—addressing domestic abuse, ritual practices, satanism, and injustice with unmatched courage.
The Star FM Chapter
In 2013, Tilder joined Star FM Zimbabwe, ushering in her most iconic era. Her shows became emotional lifelines:
- The Tilda Show – Late-night national conversations
- Sunday Secrets & Confessions – A sacred space for truth
- Couple’s Hour – Relationship mediation
- Zvinoyera, Zvinoshamisa, Zvinotyisa – Exploring the unexplained
Her voice evolved into a national conscience—firm, compassionate, and maternal.
The Tilder Foundation: Compassion in Action
Through the Tilder Foundation Trust, her work extends far beyond radio:
- Justice Advocacy: Secured freedom for wrongfully imprisoned individuals.
- Education: Funding ECD to university education for vulnerable children.
- Shelter & Welfare: Building homes and providing food relief.
- Reintegration: Supporting inmates and ex-convicts through “Behind Bars.”
Her philanthropy is personal, hands-on, and deeply transformational.
Legacy, Recognition & Personal Life
Tilder’s work has earned global recognition, including the Zimbabwe Achievers Global Award (2025) and a Lifetime Achievement Award (2022).
Married to Mr. Karizamimba, she attributes her success to humility, integrity, and transparency. Despite fame, she remains grounded—walking alongside the very communities she serves.
Tete Tilder is not just a broadcaster. She is a matriarch, a healer, and a living archive of Zimbabwe’s social conscience.
