Industry exposures, legal battles, and a spiritual "rebirth." Inside the shocking rants of Zimdancehall star Poptain (Ameen Jaleel Matanga).
The Barrage of Rants
Poptain has set the industry ablaze, accusing several high-profile figures of betrayal and exploitation:
- Killer T: Poptain sensationally accused the "Chairman" of having an affair with his girlfriend. He alleges Killer T would drop her at Poptain's residence after their encounters. His track “Madiro Aunoita Bhurugwa” was reportedly a direct vent about this betrayal.
- Winky D & Manager Banda: In a move that shocked "Gafa" fans, Poptain claimed Winky D doesn't genuinely love the genre, alleging he only uses other artists strategically when he sees a benefit for himself.
- Anita Jaxson: Declaring their highly-publicized romance a mere "marketing stunt," Poptain also alleged a massive financial loss. It is claimed he spent $30,000—intended for a house—to build a studio for her, only for her to marry someone else.
- Nutty O & Master H: He criticized the current stars for "growing too big for themselves," specifically calling out Nutty O for pushing "selfish agendas."
Legal & Financial Turmoil
Behind the social media firestorm lies a series of mounting legal pressures:
- Eviction Notice: Poptain was served with a court summons regarding his Cranborne residence. His landlord, Elvin K. Tausa, claims the singer owes US$1,900 and ZiG 13,000 in unpaid rent.
- Serious Allegations: Court documents filed by the landlord include disturbing claims of heavy drug use at the property, painting a picture of a star in crisis.
- NashTV Rift: He has accused Tinashe Mutarisi of sidelining him from projects. In a desperate bid to "reclaim his life," Poptain announced he is surrendering all rights to projects linked to Mutarisi.
- Unpaid Performance Fees: He continues to publicly demand payment from Nigel Tamba (Braai Out ZW), stating his patience has finally run out.
Spiritual Realignment
In perhaps his most drastic move, Poptain has begun scrubbing his musical legacy:
"The song 'Fadza Mutengi' enslaved me. It forced me to go against my true being."
He has officially removed his massive hit "Fadza Mutengi" from YouTube. He claims he is distancing himself from the club-centric "hustle" culture to focus on lyrics that reflect his faith in Allah. He believes the industry's focus on fame and money has clouded his spiritual path.
The Deep Dive
Industry insiders are divided. Some view Poptain’s rants as a "mental health cry for help" exacerbated by financial stress and the pressures of the music industry. Others see it as a courageous, albeit messy, attempt to expose the "gatekeepers" and exploitation within Zimbabwe's music scene.
While Killer T and Winky D have historically ignored such outbursts, the legal weight of the eviction and the financial claims regarding Anita Jaxson suggest that this is more than just social media "clout chasing." It is the story of an artist trying to burn down his old life to build something he deems more authentic.
